Emma and Andy’s happy, sentimental spring engagement session

Emma and Andy loved the idea of having their engagement portraits taken in a meaningful location, so they chose to take them in Emma’s parents’ backyard. Emma is very close to her family and feels immense fondness for the home she grew up in, especially the garden out back. Emma and Andy also love the Minnesota springtime filled with color and life, so they chose to take their portraits in May - and the tulips bloomed right on time!

Katharine and Ames’ magical, snowy engagement session outside

The day of their engagement session was a true winter wonderland. Katharine and Ames chose to have their pictures taken at Katharine’s parent’s house– a location they love with gorgeous woods, winding paths, and a warm sense of familiarity and rootedness. There happened to be a huge snowfall the night before their engagement session, so when we met the morning of the photoshoot, the sunshine was sparkling on the newly fallen snow creating such a magical backdrop.

Sue and Rachael love spending time outside, especially in the winter, so they chose to have their engagement session in late November.

Olivia and Jonathan’s joyful and serene engagement session near Lake of the Isles

Olivia and Jonathan love spending time outside together, so they chose to take engagement portraits in meaningful outdoor spaces. They had recently moved into a home in Minneapolis near Lake of the Isles, so they wanted photographs of them walking around the lake, as they do daily, as well as sitting on their favorite outdoor spaces at home. They envisioned their portraits feeling relaxed, romantic, and authentic– capturing the everyday joys of life as a couple.

Cat and Aubrey’s happy, laid-back engagement session

Aubrey and Cat wanted their pictures to feel casual and natural, and to document some of their favorite places to hang out together. Cat was really excited to have some pictures that would capture the joyful playfulness of their relationship and the fun that they have, and Aubrey wanted to document their romantic and laid-back side. We decided to pick two unique locations for their session: a brewery for some storytelling, candid-feeling portraits that captured a fun little date vibe, and an outdoor garden setting that documented their love of the outdoors and some springtime flowers!

Catherine and Ryan’s hometown engagement session in White Bear Lake, MN

Catherine and Ryan live in the Washington DC area, and they weren’t going to be home in Minnesota until right before their wedding. They loved the idea of doing an engagement session, though, and decided that doing an engagement session would be a really fun way to kick off their wedding week celebrations!

These pictures are so sweet and special! Doing an engagement session felt like a way for Catherine and Ryan to carve out time for just the two of them and take a little break from the busyness of wedding preparations. The pictures feel like a lovely contrast from their wedding photos, too, and tell more of the story of this chapter in Catherine and Ryan’s daily lives together.

Sam and John are getting married in the fall of 2022, and they loved the idea of doing their engagement session during the same time of year as their wedding so that there’s a bit of continuity in their pictures! Sara and John's St. Paul Engagement Photography

I love planning photoshoots with people I care deeply about - when I plan any engagement session, my reflective/emotional sappy side comes out and I love getting to talk with couples about their relationship and their life together. There was a day this summer when Sara and John and I sat in my backyard while our pups played together, and had a little reflective chat about their love story and what they wanted to document from this chapter of life, and how they envisioned their engagement session.

Patrick and Jeff's Sunny, South Minneapolis Engagement Photography

Patrick and Jeff are a bit of a magical couple: they’re laid-back and welcoming, fun and adventurous - the kind of people that just feel so good to be around. When we talked about what they were looking for in their engagement pictures, they wanted photography that would feel relaxed and true to them. Since they wanted a mix of photos - some that would feel more lifestyle and candid, and some that felt more portrait-like and focused on the two of them and their relationship - we decided on selecting two locations for their engagement session.

Emily and Johnny’s Spring Engagement Photography at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

Emily and Johnny envisioned the fresh and colorful season of spring as the backdrop for their engagement portraits at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. When my couples are looking for something specific like blooming flowers or changing leaves, I suggest touching base as the season approaches to best time their sessions - rather than try to predict mother nature. We touched base throughout the spring season and ended up with a session in mid-May at the height of the blooming trees; our coordination totally paid off to bring out their vision.
