Emily, Phil, and baby Lucy’s sweet, joyful newborn session

This was such a special session for me – I’ve been working with Emily and Phil for a super long time! I met them when I was photographing Phil’s brother’s wedding many years ago and later photographed Emily and Phil for their engagement session and wedding! We’ve stayed in touch and become friends over the years, and I was absolutely ECSTATIC when they shared that they were expecting a baby! What an honor it was to meet and photograph baby Lucy with her incredible parents.

The “typical” age for a newborn session is between day five and 14 of the baby’s life. During that time, newborns are often smaller, smushier, and a little bit sleepier! Emily and Phil were so excited to have portraits of Lucy in her first days in the world, and so we took these pictures when she was just under two weeks old. Lucy had a full head of hair and strong little hands already – it made me so happy to capture them in these photos!

Emily and Phil decided to have their newborn session done in their home. In addition to recently bringing Lucy into the world, they’d also recently done some beautiful home renovations to their kitchen and living space, and it was so fun to document this in these pictures! The whole session was focused on Emily, Phil, and Lucy’s sense of home and the cozy, sweet family that the three of them have together.

Lucy was sleepy and happy when I arrived at their family home, so we dove right into taking photos! We began the session in the living room – I love that you can see their fireplace in the background.

Next, we moved into Lucy’s nursery. I really love the pictures of them with their dog, Archie! In one of the pictures, Archie started licking Phil’s face which totally cracked us all up! It was such a cute moment.

We took a little pause so that Lucy could eat and get some snuggles with Emily. You can probably tell from these pictures just how much Emily and Phil enjoy Lucy – they are so in love with being her parents, and it is so beautiful to see!

I took a few pictures of Lucy in her crib, including one where she’s cozied up with her lambie!

Then we headed back out to the living room to take a few more portraits there. Phil’s mom, Sue, was present for their newborn session, and it was such an authentic reflection of their life to have her included in a portrait. She has been such an amazing support for their family of three, and it was so sweet to have her included in the newborn session. (While including a grandparent isn’t a fit for every family, it is absolutely welcome if that feels special to you!)

We ended with a few more portraits of Emily, Phil, and Lucy, including one standing in front of their living room window. I love how Emily and Phil are looking at each other – you can see the strong, loving connection that they have, and now they get to share that with Lucy.

Emily and Phil, it has been the biggest joy to see your love grow and deepen for one another over the years. Thank you so much for trusting me to document your lives together – and now Lucy’s, too! Lucy, your parents are so over-the-moon in love with you. I hope these portraits will forever remind you how very special you are and how much your parents cherish you!
