Cat and Aubrey’s happy, laid-back engagement session

Aubrey and Cat are getting married next summer! We were really excited to start working together by planning an engagement session for the two of them. When we started planning this session, the two of them both really wanted to be sure that their pictures would feel true to them. They said “we want it to feel like us!” which of course I love and agree with! Their relationship is full of adventure — they love state parks and spending time outside, as well as finding new breweries and local places to explore for casual afternoon dates.

Aubrey and Cat’s ideas for their session

They wanted their pictures to feel casual and natural, and to document some of their favorite places to hang out together. Cat was really excited to have some pictures that would capture the joyful playfulness of their relationship and the fun that they have, and Aubrey wanted to document their romantic and laid-back side.

Two locations for their storytelling session

We decided to pick two unique locations for their session: a brewery for some storytelling, candid-feeling portraits that captured a fun little date vibe, and an outdoor garden setting that documented their love of the outdoors and some springtime flowers!

We met up at Forgotten Star Brewery near Minneapolis, which is a beautiful space full of historic brick walls, giant windows, and tons of beautiful light! It was the perfect setting for a little afternoon date.  When we arrived, Cat and Aubrey grabbed some beer and cozied up under the windows together. These pictures have such an easygoing and happy vibe.

Then we headed to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for some outdoor portraits! We spent some time wandering through beautiful green forest spots. I love the organic texture that the willow branches brought into their pictures!

At the end of their engagement session, Cat and Aubrey and I found a grove of flowering trees to take a few pictures in. It felt like such a magical little spot — these pictures feel so happy and romantic! It was a beautiful sunny evening, and these pictures have such a happy spring energy to them, which aligns so well with the vibe these two wanted for their pictures.

Cat and Aubrey, it was so fun to get to know you more through planning this engagement session! Spending time with the two of you seriously made me even more excited for your wedding — you two are so lovely and fun and thoughtful, and I love the happy energy you brought into these pictures! I can’t wait to keep celebrating with you at your wedding next summer. :)
