Jordan and Colton’s joyful, relaxed, elegant wedding

Ahh, Jordan and Colton! This was a super special wedding to photograph. As you might remember me writing in Jordan and Colton’s engagement session blog post, I’ve known Colton for most of my life! We’re longtime family friends, and we spent a lot of time together as kids. Our families have stayed really close throughout the years, so it felt like such an honor to get to be Jordan and Colton’s wedding photographer -- and it’s been a huge joy to get to know Jordan too throughout this process!

Jordan and Colton got engaged about a year ago. When we talked about their wedding vision and priorities, the biggest theme they identified was really wanting to spend the day with their beloved people. In the end, they were completely overjoyed that they were able to have a wedding with so many of their people present.

Jordan and Colton’s wedding took place at Legacy Hill Farm in Welch, MN. They had been there for another event and fell in love with the venue and all of the nature surrounding it! They decided to get married in early November. It was a crisp, breezy day full of late-fall colors.

Documenting the details

On Jordan and Colton’s wedding day, I arrived with Tyler (my partner and second shooter), and started the day by checking in with each of them! Jordan and Colton both love detail pictures, and they had gathered some special details from their day together so Tyler and I started the day by taking some detail pictures. These photos really capture some of the intentional, special details that Jordan and Colton wove into their wedding day!

Getting ready candids

We spent some time with Jordan and Colton as they were each getting ready in their separate suites. They both had a few friends, parents, their siblings, and their siblings’ partners helping them get prepared for the day! Jordan and the ladies hung out while they got their hair and makeup done, and Colton and the men played cards and pool while they got ready. In both suites, everyone seemed to be so happy, relaxed, and having fun being together!

A sweet moment with Jordan and her dad

After Jordan and Colton finished getting ready, we started preparing for their first look. Before seeing Colton, Jordan actually did a first look with her father -- which was SUPER sweet! Jordan and her father have a really special relationship and she was so excited to have an intentional moment set aside for the two of them to be together. They were both tearing up! (Later, during his toast, Jordan’s father said that he’s an emotional person and that it’s not uncommon for him to cry, so I think these pictures feel really true to their dynamic as a family.) After the hustle and bustle of getting ready for a wedding, having a quiet moment with someone you love always seems to ground and connect people in such a lovely way.

Colton & Jordan’s first look

After Jordan and her father finished their moment together, Tyler and I orchestrated a first look for Jordan and Colton. Tyler walked Colton around the backside of the building so that he wouldn’t see Jordan, and we found a really beautiful spot in front of this gorgeous tree full of orange fall leaves. Jordan walked up to him and we took some pictures of them seeing each other for the first time, embracing and smiling. They were full of happy emotions! (I also love how the breeze caught Jordan’s dress -- it looks really amazing with the wind blowing through it.)

Practicing their vows before the ceremony

Jordan and Colton decided to do a practice round of reading their vows to each other during their first look. This is advice I was given back when Tyler and I got married, and I LOVE it when couples do this! It gives both people a chance to really soak in each others’ words and revel in them together. I loved documenting Jordan and Colton hearing each others’ vows for the first time -- it felt so sweet and special.

Family & wedding party portraits

After their first look, we headed to an indoor space in the venue’s barn for warm, cozy family pictures. We got amazing pictures of both sides of the family and moved onto wedding party pictures in the same indoor space. There was also a small building with rustic wood vibes nearby that worked beautifully as a second space for some fun wedding party pictures (while keeping everyone protected from the wind!)

Their outdoor ceremony at Legacy Hill Farm

After those portraits, the couple and their wedding party took a little bit of downtime to take a few breaths and prepare for the wedding! Guests started arriving and settled into their seats. Jordan’s bridal suite had a little window looking out to the ceremony space, so she was able to watch everyone come in! These pictures are always really fun to take because the wedding guests are so excited -- the energy is totally happy.

Then the ceremony began! My sibling, Kaelie, was actually the officiant for the wedding, which was SO fun and special to watch (and they did such a lovely job of bringing Jordan and Colton’s story to life)! Jordan and Colton shared their vows and intentions for their relationship as their loved ones looked on and witnessed their love for each other. It was such a beautiful ceremony.

The pictures of Jordan and Colton recessing from their wedding ceremony are so sweet. I love how you can just feel their happiness bursting out of the photos!

Jordan & Colton’s reception

Jordan, Colton, Kaelie, and maid of honor and best man popped inside the rustic building to sign the marriage certificate, and guests headed to a patio for a cocktail hour. Everyone mingled and gathered together before moving indoors into the gorgeous reception space. Tyler and I sneaked inside the reception room before guests walked in so we could capture what the space looked like -- the table settings, the centerpieces, and all of the decor were so beautifully chosen and created. Everyone found their seats, enjoyed dinner, and there were some really special toasts!

Sunset portraits during golden hour

Jordan, Colton, and I snuck out a couple of times so I could take some portraits of them -- once around sunset for a little walk, and once at dusk. We had the most amazing sunset light, and these portraits feel so cozy, relaxed, and romantic!

Dancing the night away

Jordan and Colton ended the evening with dancing! These two absolutely LOVE dancing (they've told me it's their favorite part of other weddings and they'd been so excited for this part of their own celebration) , and they were so excited to dance the night away with their friends and family. It was an awesome ending to the night!

Jordan and Colton, what an honor and joy it was to photograph your wedding! It made my heart so happy to see your love for each other and to get to document it all with my camera. You two are such intentional, loving people, and I loved every minute I got to spend with you! Thank you so much for trusting me to photograph your wedding.
