Emma and Andy’s happy, sentimental spring engagement session

Emma and Andy are two incredibly sweet and sentimental people who deeply value their connection to their families and to nature. They got married last summer, and a few months before that they had a beautiful spring engagement session, and I’m delighted to share those pictures today!

Emma and Andy loved the idea of having their engagement portraits taken in a meaningful location, so they chose to take them in Emma’s parents’ backyard. Emma is very close to her family and feels immense fondness for the home she grew up in, especially the garden out back. Emma’s mom is a master gardener, and she has put tremendous care into planting beautiful flower beds throughout their backyard for years, including a gorgeous bed of tulips. Emma has taken countless photos over the years in front of these tulips, documenting milestone moments and graduations in her life, so it felt fitting to have her engagement portraits with Andy taken in this storied place. Emma and Andy also love the Minnesota springtime filled with color and life, so they chose to take their portraits in May - and the tulips bloomed right on time!

Emma and Andy wanted a portrait-focused session that felt natural, easygoing, and comfortable. I photographed them meandering through the gorgeous flower beds in the yard, pausing beside a crabapple tree that Emma’s parents planted when she was a child, and strolling along the lovely lakeshore. Their portraits are bursting with joy, sweetness, and color.
