Britta and Jacob’s joyful, fun, love-filled wedding day

You might remember Britta and Jacob’s snowy, joyful engagement session last winter -- and now I get to share pictures from their super happy, fun wedding with you!!

I really adore Britta and Jacob! They are both such intentional, thoughtful people, and it was so cool to see their wedding and all of their ideas come into fruition. They knew that they wanted to have a wedding where everyone could have so much fun, enjoy really good food and drinks, and just be together, and they worked so hard (especially in the pandemic) to make it all happen as safely as possible!

Britta and Jacob’s wedding day

The day started at the AC Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, where Tyler (my second shooter and partner) and I took getting-ready pictures of Britta and Jacob. Britta loves detail pictures, so she’d prepared a bunch of special things for me to photograph, including her incredible bouquet, her wedding day jewelry, their rings, her wedding dress, and their wedding stationery. I also took candids as Britta got into her dress with the help of her mother and bridesmaids. Meanwhile, Tyler took pictures of Jacob and his groomsmen as they spent time together and got ready separately.

Next, Tyler and I set up a first look for Britta and Jacob in the hotel near some windows with really beautiful light. The two of them were SO excited to see each other! I got Jacob ready first, and then went to get Britta. We rode down the elevator together to the first look spot, and right before we rounded the corner where she would see him, Britta looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, “I’m just so excited to see him!” They were so, so happy to have a romantic moment lost in each other, and then we took a few portraits in the hotel and outside.

After the first look, we met up with Britta and Jacob’s wedding party! They had such a fun group of friends who they couldn’t wait to spend time with, so we set aside a good amount of time for a wedding party adventure that afternoon. We walked through some beautiful parts of downtown Minneapolis together -- one of them called it a “wedding parade,” which I loved so much! It was such a happy walk and prelude to the wedding ceremony, wandering around the North Loop and taking a few pictures around the Hennepin Avenue bridge.

We made it to Watson Block, Britta and Jacob’s wedding ceremony and reception space. It has a super cool industrial vibe, complete with brick walls and chandeliers. I took a few detail pictures of the space and the absolutely stunning floral installation that their florist had created. We moved into family pictures, and they were all so excited to be together! The family pictures paused, and the couple was able to head upstairs to a little waiting spot to take a few breaths and relax before the ceremony began.

Britta and Jacob’s wedding ceremony was super lovely. There were really sweet moments and a bunch of moments where people were crying happy tears. The officiant shared some really lovely stories about the couple. At one point, a beam of light suddenly came through the window and shined on Britta, creating this artistic lighting moment with Britta in the sun and Jacob in silhouette!

Britta and Jacob had a really joyful recessional walk at the end of their wedding ceremony -- they were just beaming! They had a receiving line so that they could greet their guests right away, which flowed into a cocktail and appetizer hour. It was a super fun part of the day!

As the cocktail hour was nearing an end, I noticed that there was some really beautiful light coming through the window, so Britta, Jacob, and I drove to the Hennepin Avenue parking garage to take some sunset pictures. (It might sound a little odd, but in a city, you want to get up super high to get pictures without buildings blocking the light, so the top of a parking garage can be an amazing spot for sunset pictures!) It was the perfect time of day; you could see this big, expansive sky on one side, and beautiful sunset colors reflected in the downtown buildings on the other side. They practiced their first dance and it was such a serene, happy moment.

After taking a few more sunset portraits, we zoomed back to Watson Block and arrived just in time for everyone to be seated for dinner. They had a lovely, relaxing dinner full of happy energy and loving toasts! Then they jumped into dancing, which was SO fun -- everyone hopped on the dance floor, including the youngest guests! They had a really great party out there and danced the night away together.

Britta and Jacob, it has been SUCH a joy to get to know you and photograph your love together! You have such a beautiful, intentional relationship, and it was so special to see you celebrate your relationship together with your loved ones. Thank you so much for trusting me with your wedding photography -- I’ve absolutely loved every minute photographing you two!
