Heidi and Josh's Sweet, Nerdy Engagement Portraits at the Science Museum of Minnesota
Heidi is so so excited to marry Josh. She reached out just a few weeks after Josh had proposed on their Cozumel cruise to chat about weddings and photography and to share her epic Pinterest board.
Heidi and I have known each other for a little while now, we both volunteered at P.INK Day here in Minneapolis. And I was so touched when she asked me to be a part of she and Josh’s wedding journey. When I met Josh and saw how happy and in love they are together, I was even more excited.
Heidi and Josh are fun, laid back and the best kind of nerdy. When we started chatting about engagement photos they knew they didn’t want their portraits to look just like everyone else’s and we designed a session that would feel true to them, incorporating places and elements that would reference some of their important moments and the interests they share (Books! Star Wars! Harry Potter!)
One of their very first dates was at the Science Museum of Minnesota and they were so excited to revisit that moment in their engagement photos. For the first chapter of this session we took a lifestyle approach: I tagged along on their museum date, offering super-minimal posing guidance as they visited their favorite exhibits. The photos have a lovely, candid vibe to them and they really act as a window into this season of Heidi and Josh’s life.
The museum has an outdoor balcony with pretty views of the river and I loved that it was a little piece of the outdoors during this museum moment. These portraits are a bit more directed, but still so sweet and natural. How much do you love their giant, genuine smiles!
For the final part of their engagement session, Heidi and Josh changed into slightly fancier outfits and we set up a little picnic for them in the park across from the museum. They had brought along books and lightsabers and a Potter-esque wand and they had so much fun cozying up together, reading and chatting about the things they love.
Heidi and Josh, I’m so so excited that you two are getting married. Thanks for showing me the best secrets at the science museum and adding to my nerdy reading list. I can’t wait to celebrate your marriage with you in 2019!
