Fall Anniversary Sessions

I always find it rewarding to work with a couple again after their wedding day. It’s powerful to celebrate moments throughout all chapters of life; whether it’s another giant milestone or just a lovely chapter of life, I love the idea of saying that everyday life is worth documenting through photos.

One of my favorite ways to continue telling a couple’s story is through an anniversary session. This fall I reconnected with couples after their weddings to celebrate new themes in their lives and relationships.

Jenna and Aaron

These two got married a few years ago at Wild Marsh Golf Club. In Jenna and Aaron’s session we took in the scenery of Minnehaha Falls Park and found a cool mix of foliage in the park. There were still patches of lush and green hanging onto summer! I especially loved the area we found at sunset with light streaming through the most brilliant yellow-green trees.

I have photographed Jenna and Aaron at this park before and was mindful to create a feel different than previous photos. By paying attention to the light and background textures, we were able to create pictures that capture their story in this moment.

Susan and Brett

Susan and Brett’s session at Lake of the Isles was joyful and mirrored an establishing chapter in life for them. This location is right in the city, but still feels so nature immersive.

Their rescue dog is new this year and was super sweet to include in their pictures. I first met her while hanging Susan and Brett’s wedding art in their home after their wedding last year at the Arboretum. I was so excited when they said they wanted to bring her along for these pictures!.

We created casual lifestyle photos that allowed Susan and Brett to love on their pup during their session. They chose not have a dog-buddy come along, but she was well-trained enough to be tied to a tree and hang out while not in snuggly photos.

Kelsey and Brandon

I loved that Kelsey and Brandon dressed to the nines for their session (see their wedding day style on the blog). Their look is a little bit elegant while still being relaxed, and their colors really pop against the green background.

I often get asked about what to wear for a session like this, or an engagement session. Dressing for a photoshoot can feel intimidating - most of us are not models! Instead of telling people to think about dressing for a photoshoot, I like to tell people to think about an event they would go to together and dress for that (a brunch with friends, a fancy night out, a walk through an orchard). So instead of it feeling high-pressure, it feels much more natural. Kelsey and Brandon are such a great example of this! I love that they each have their own style while also looking really coordinated.

They also brought along this swanky car that was new in their lives this year. They drove it to the photoshoot and we included it in some of their pictures for an extra fun element.

Alli and Tavish

Alli and Tavish are romantic, funny, and relaxed—and wanted pictures that would feel natural and true to them (see sweet moments from their fall wedding at Bunker Hill Golf Course). They live outside the city and enjoy coming to Minneapolis, so we held their photoshoot at Stone Arch Bridge.

My favorite pictures from this session happened at the very end of our time together. The sun shifted and came through the trees to create a glow of green. This dappled light surrounding the two of them laughing feels so happy and lush.
