A springtime Minnesota Backyard Wedding
This Minnesota backyard wedding is full of happy springtime elements – sunny flowers and pops of turquoise – but it is also a wedding full of meaning. This bride, Shelby, had always dreamed of getting married in her parents backyard, and her family’s estate was the perfect setting for this backyard tent wedding.
Minneapolis Wedding Ceremony at the Lakewood Chapel
If you’ve seen my photography work before, you probably know that I love photographing outdoor weddings – there’s something about being in nature that seems to make people feel relaxed and happy, and the trees and sky and open air just beg for romantic wedding portraits. That being said, I also bring the gear and skills to create that same natural, emotional kind of photography in indoor spaces, which is important because a lot of couples will opt for ceremonies in small, dark chapels even if their reception will be outdoors. In this case, Shelby and Drew got ready and had their ceremony at the Lakewood Chapel in Minneapolis. If you haven’t seen this chapel before, scroll down to the ceremony pictures so you can check out the incredible mosaic tile ceiling inside the chapel!
I photographed this wedding as a second shooter alongside Becca Dilley, who is always incredible to work with. Thanks for inviting me along, Becca!
Before their ceremony, Shelby and Drew planned a First Look, so we could capture some images of them seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day – they also each wrote each other a love letter so they took some calm, relaxed time to read their letters to each other and share the emotion and anticipation of their day! It was a really sweet moment to capture in the gardens near the chapel.
